If you actually watched the Uncarrier 7.0 presentation, you'll see that network capacity isn't a problem, since it's built fiber from the ground up, unlike the other carriers that still utilize copper and T1 lines. Basically, this eliminates dead spots around the home and with T-Mobile's tweaks on the firmware, it provides QoS for Wi-Fi calls before the rest of the bandwidth is allocated for the rest of the network. Nice try on the dig, though.

Pretty sweet deal for a nice Router if all they did was tweak the QOS.

So does this actually work as a 4G extender, or does it just route the calls through T-mobiles Wi-fi calling feature?

In other words does it do anything but what my phone does with my own router now?

Ok so a couple of points:

"If you initiate a call on your T-Mobile handset using VoLTE, Legere says, it will seamlessly switch over to your WiFi network when you enter your home "

That doesn't happen right now. You're either on Wifi calling or you're not. If you are on Wifi calling and you walk outside of your router's range the call drops even if you get full bars from your cell tower.

"essentially making the rest of the call free. If you initiate a call at home via WiFi and then leave the house, it will switch over to VoLTE."

Now in the past wifi calling still cost you minutes. With the simple choice having unlimited talk and text, it doesn't really matter.

Still, a free AC router is good.

Techinally it not free but more like a loaner with a $25 deposit.

also when you're on wifi calling, the links in your txt messages wont work correctly.

Still quite a few kinks that need to be worked out.. But i like what T-mobile has been offering to its customers. No contract, great plan rates, wifi calling option for free, now a loaner router for 25 bucks.. if they hadn't stepped up we'd still be stuck with the likes of AT&T.
