^ Depends on the chemical. Every few years, in spring ants try to invade my kitchen. I put out boric acid traps that kill them. I can lick a pile of boric acid with no ill effects and it even used to be an ingredient in mouth wash, and still is for eye washes.

Absolutely correct. There are safe alternatives like Boric/Borax. We need to start going back to safer/healthier product use.
