Was hoping they would go lower than Xbox since it is less powerful AND since the RTX3070 cards will just decimate this at the same price point. Sure you have to build a computer around it if you don't have one but I am seriously thinking of switching from my 100% Playstation loyalty :( Plus the games are going to be $10 more too and the controller.....
Xbox has nicer online services (always has) and everything is backwards compatible. Now it's more powerful and lower priced... plus Sony just announced they'll be short on production, so it will be hard to find.

Total sh1tshow. Thankfully most of the launch games will be on PS4. I’ll wait a few years like I did to pickup a PS4. Played 10 of the greatest hits at bargain prices in last year. That’s a good deal.
Managed to snag one on at exactly midnight PST. Didn't have any issues at midnight but it seems like this was a surprise launch. I just lucked out and happened to be up in the middle of the night on a Wednesday. Insomnia paying off for once!

I was wrong. "Sony has confirmed that PS4 games will be playable on the PS5, meaning that the PlayStation 5 is backwards compatible with the PS4. ... You'll also be able to insert physical PS4 discs into the PS5 and play them on the next-gen console."

The difference between the high end console CPU and GPU is minimal, much smaller than it has been between all previous 3D console generations. If there is anything that could play out to making a noticeable difference between the two it will probably be the data I/O throughput in which the PS5 is significantly faster.
The XBOX is not cheaper and more powerful. The Series S has a GPU that is about 2.5-3 times less capable than the PS5. You have to buy the Series X to compete with the PS5 and its the same price.
Its true the RTX 3070 is the same price as a new XBox or PS5 console, but after you add in a case, power supply, memory, CPU, SSD, and so on, you're going to be more than double the price of these new consoles.
The cost/performance value of the new XBox and PS5 is very good compared to PC gaming (for now) and there isn't one that is significantly cheaper or more powerful than the other!
