So can you connect two sets of speakers to this unit and play either one set, the other set, or both sets at the same time?

No. You connect one set of speakers, and can play from 4 sources (3.5mm AUX, USB, Coaxial, Optical.)

There are only speaker wire posts for L and R channel, plus a sub out. This is an amp for a 2.1 system.
