Wow I almost bought one of these! Thanks floorbean for the link. Ben's bargains not only lie about prices but now they are helping peddle useless products.
As an airline employee, I will tell you the hard case bags are so damn slippery that they don't stack well with other bags (there is ALOT of stacking of your bag before, during, and after a flight) which causes them to fall off whatever stack they are a part of at a higher rate than softer material bags. Also, these plastic/vinyl pieces easily break when dropped or when falling off. Cold, wet conditions make it much worse. If you're going to go hard, do what I see with Japanese travellers do, which is use metallic bags, which are much more sturdy. Or find a much harder plastic found on Pelican cases and the like. Vinyl/plastic is terrible. FYI, the newer powered bags have detachable lithium ion batteries, so it shouldn't be an issue...just remove and carry it on your person as you board the flight.
