So I own the 10" version and bought it refurbed at the end of March 2019 for $75.65 from (vipoutlet).
Since that time it's been in our kitchen area and we use it just about every day.
Some things I like: For music, it runs pandora and the speaker is pretty good - plenty enough. Also for the kids, they're at the age when they want to learn recipes, so looking for those and going through them is a nice feature. We do use the alarm clock and it does its job there.
We also use it occasionally for the little ones to watch one of the movies we own - anything you see in your Google movies collection, you can play on this.
Another great benefit is that you can screen share to it via miracast.
However this brings me onto my pet peeves:
For movies, to play from your collection, you have to know the name of the movie. I haven't found a way of searching through / listing the movies in your collection - when you use it with a mobile, you can use the mobile to search for the movie and if you like, just project via miracast, or go direct to the smart display and say, "OK Google, play Mary Poppins". For News, it's basically the same pane that you see in Google News on your mobile. I personally have become very frustrated with this service - so many "News" articles aren't news at all - many are also thinly veiled sales pitches. Also Google has a long running and for me serious issue where the description of news articles doesn't match the videos it points to. That latter issue I believe is due to lazy programming - it's finding the article, but linking to the first video on the page, which could be about something completely different. Lastly, smart displays and android TV don't recognise different users - so if your kids are looking at kids videos on youtube on your TV, you'll see you video suggestions filled with kid related videos.
So a limited device that could be more than it is. It certainly doesn't feel like a platform that Google is putting much effort into.
After receiving the device, I can't turn on my 2020 Roku Smart TV it's not connecting to any of my smart life devices. it doesn't let you set a routine for the alarm schedule. you can do as many individual alarms as you want but after that time or day passes you have to set it again. I only spent 40 minutes messing around with it I will do another review if I find it working properly if not I'm returning this device.
