    We ended up opting for the Dell Inspiron 14" instead of the HP -- the trade-off is less RAM (4GB) but a larger SSD (128GB). So far we've noticed no issues. Maybe the need for 8GB is more of a Windows thing?

    Anyway, the Dell bounces around $450-$550 (and once, $399) so typically $50 more than the sale price on the HP. Otherwise the two machines are very, very similar. OH, one other important difference: the Dell comes with a good stylus that stows on the bottom and works well. I mean if I could teach my wife to use it for notes and screenshots, it must work well!

    Scanning the reviews, it looks like a few more unhappy HP owners than on the Dell machine. Given our good experience with the Dell I might point ChromeOS users that way.

    Just a quick follow-up to my previous post -- looks like the price on the Dell Inspiron 14" Chromebook has switched places with the HP, and it's now $399 at Best Buy.
