Google is offering 15GB of online cloud file storage for Free. They also announced today that they are dropping the prices of their paid monthly storage plans, with 100GB of storage now $1.99 per month (previously $4.99) and 1TB storage for $9.99 per month (previously $49.99). You can sign up here.

Nice to see some price decreases on the same day Amazon announced they're raising the price of Prime memberships.

Sigh... 7% state taxes added last year and now over a 20% Prime membership fee increase. I betting their customer service is the next on the hit list.

but what is great with
Amazon
Prime - if you do not get the item in 2days (by guarantied date) you can call/chat and get refund for their usual charge of 2day shipping for non-prime users.
If item is not arrived in 4-5 days you can get refund on whole item price (of course if the item is not too pricey).

I got refunds for more then $50 the last year.

Looks interesting. My experience with Gdrive is that the client hogs a lot of CPU. Hope they've fixed that by now.

Amazon
is being sued for shady business practices. It seems prime members are paying higher prices for items in order to make up the shipping difference for the second day shipping. I mentioned this in an earlier post, and it looks like I'm not the only one that noticed. Now that
Amazon
has such a large share of the market, they are doing things in order to squeeze as many dollars out of their customers as possible. Because of this, I now look elsewhere for my goods and services.

The $20 extra for
Amazon
is not bad. I know I save well Over the whole amount in shipping every year. and also watch a few shows. Wife uses the **** out of all the Kindle stuff and sharing. This is also not till next year or at least that is what my Email said. I am wanting to hear about the music streaming service they are coming out with.

^ paying half of Amz prime is still too much. Amz hold your package extra days purposely so their prime member feel good.

Yeah, they used to do that, not anymore for me anyway. Had a couple of late items and called them and they gave me like $2 or something

What wrong with a thumb drive on your keychain as your cloud?

That's an option. It's more practical to use to Google Drive though as it saves all your work automatically and can access in any computer or tablet.

If I wasn't already using bittorrent sync, I might've gotten a bit excited over this news. BTS works well. One good thing is that Gdrive provides a better way to share files with others via a web portal. That's where I might find it more useful than BTS.

So the price increase is your fault. The profit lost on your refunds must be made up by the rest of us. Thank you.

On MacOS it is not a CPU hog. However it is one of the worst bandwidth hogs I have encountered in recent years. Won't notice it when idling but drop a 500MB file in your GD and it will open multiple sessions to Google servers and beat all other users of your internet connection off until GD finishes. It is not a good network citizen. Might get away with it at home but others at work will come with swords and pitchforks once they find you are the culprit.

OTOH Dropbox does have built-in bandwidth throttling making it a good network citizen.

Hey mr2gts,
Amazon
doesn't "charge" you sales tax- your state does, and they always have. The states have just forced
Amazon
to collect their tax from you so you don't "forget".
Amazon
is making it easier for you to obey the law :)

seems like such a good price but can't help but feel I would be uploading my files directly to the NSA. Also makes we wonder if some of the expense is offset by our tax payer dollars through the NSA. I am going to have to pass on this deal. google just can't be trusted. I have been using Yandex for online storage space. They are a Russian company so that means they are not under pressure by the NSA to betray us. I can't believe I am looking to Russia for some liberty and freedom.
