I would definitely recommend not buying this and skip straight to the 20v, unless you have a specific reason for wanting the smaller, lighter set.

Yeah, being a smaller person, or doing highly repetitive overhead work, or very small budget but not wanting generic junk, would be a few reasons to settle for a major brand low-tier 12V set, but the average DIYer will appreciate more power from 18V/20V.

One exception might be a cordless ratchet, where the small right angle mechanism can't make use of 20V or else it'd strip out, so 12V from 3x cells makes for a smaller tool to get into tighter spaces.
