Belt drives don't last as long as screw drives. Not sure if I would spend the money on a disposable garage door opener.

^ Buy a new belt then? IIRC they're around $40 while the opener itself will typically outlast the rest of the system including the door springs, so long as there isn't undue stress on it from rusty hinges or dry/misaligned track. AFAIK the belt on mine is over 15 y/o, still works fine.

The belt drive will last, only if you install it correctly. Ours was too tight and it broke within a year.
