You light it, it burns until it reaches the clip, then it goes out if you don't extend it. So if you want it to burn continuously for 48 hours in your cave, you need to extend it every few minutes.
We have this. It is more hipster cool than useful. I do like that it puts itself out though. When we light we don't ever have to worry about blowing it out.
