I just discovered that these might be illegal because they can transmit on frequencies they have not been FCC approved. Not only that, it transmits at HIGHER power levels than authorized!
This just made this device 10x more valuable, as you'll be getting WAY MORE RADIO for your money. I bet Baofeng are dumping all their stock to replace with the more restricted (and compliant) devices
Would you get in trouble for owning one? Probably not, as long as you follow all other FCC regulations. No one prevents you from transmitting at higher power! But you are NOT ALLOWED to interfere with restricted and licensed frequencies. You may listen, but you CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT transmit under the penalty of the law. There are ways to program your baofeng to prevent it from transmitting at these frequencies by mistake but you need a programming cable.
As far as I saw, Chirp software allows you to program the frequencies from 100MHz all the way to 1000Mhz. This is WAY beyond the 2 meter and 70cm bands
I'm going to order 2 more. Just because I know these will be way more valuable and impossible to find in the future!

PS, you MUST be licensed HAM to transmit unless it is an emergency.
Thank you!
