Even though this is a dual-core chip it is a 4 thread CPU making it pretty similar to a quad core.

Looking at PassMark, the Ryzen 3200U is not far from the i3-8130U -- they score 4704 and 5017, respectively. The i3 has a larger advantage on the single-cpu rating though, 1929 vs. 1654. Overall, not a very noticeable difference in everyday usage.
Got 1. Lato seems you could add a 16 ddr4 chip to for 20 Gb of ram. ??
All the reviews on related machines I've read suggest it has a 12GB max -- 4 on the soldered RAM and a max of 8 in the open slot.
FWIW I dropped in a 256GB M.2 SSD and a 4GB stick of RAM, and installed Ubuntu 19.10 (which took maybe 15 minutes). Absolutely no issues with the SSD but the OS is showing 6GB total instead of 8GB like I expected -- I wonder if that is maybe due to different timings on the two sticks? I'll pick up a $30 4GB stick that matches the soldered RAM and test it out.
Build quality is plastic and cheap (it was also a bit challenging to open up) and the display is dull, dull, dull. But the Ryzen 3 is faster than the Core i5-6200U machine it's replacing, the backlit keyboard is excellent, it feels lighter than 3lb, the fingerprint scanner works for login, and it boots in a few seconds. Definitely a great, great buy.
Anyway, remember that has the 15" version of the same machine. Just went from $250 to $280 but still available and reportedly has an IPS screen. Also excellent reviews.
I can also confirm (as seen elsewhere) that the F412DA does indeed have a second drive slot -- however, there is no interface for it, so it's just empty space.
A couple follow-up thoughts now that I've had a few days to play with the F412DA:
- the "missing" RAM (in Ubuntu) is in fact not missing -- Ubuntu 19.10 is automatically giving 2GB to "Picasso" the integrated APU (aka GPU). Doesn't seem to be a way to modify that, but no worries I'm picking up an 8GB module of RAM for like $30.
- lowered the gamma from 1.0 to 0.65 with xgamma, which significantly improved the contrast and reduced the washed out look of the screen. I mainly connect remotely to the machine but it's a lot better to look at now!
- I sadly missed the $200 sale -- DARN! Oh well...in any case the 15" is still at for $250, which is a pretty good price. I was wrong though, no evidence that the 15" has an IPS screen.
Very happy with the purchase. It's light, quiet and noticeably faster than the i5-6200U it replaced!

Unless the deal changed, it looks like , not Still a pretty good deal given the SSD, FHD display, and backlit keyboard.
