Update: Preorders start today and most carriers have some sort of promotion going on. Here are the main ones to know about:
- Verizon is offering $700 off a 2nd iPhone when you buy the new Xs or Xs Max (mix and match between iPhone XS Max, XS, X, 8 Plus or 8 256GB devices; adding a new line to one of these phones is required and credit is paid out over 24 months)
- AT&T has essentially the same deal, with $700 off a 2nd iPhone Xs or Xs Max when you buy one on AT&T Next (credit applied over 30 months)
- T-Mobile is offering Up to $300 off the iPhone Xs and Xs Max w/ Eligible Trade-Ins
- Sprint has the iPhone Xs 64GB for $0/month on an 18-month lease w/ eligible trade-in (or the Xs Max 64GB for $4.17/month)
The Xs models have a "Super Retina" edge-to-edge display, improved A12 Bionic chip, and some pretty cool upgrades to the camera: Smart HDR, and what got me, the ability to adjust depth of field after taking a photo. Basically, the CPU upgrade is adding cool new features to the camera, but the actual tech of the camera hasn't really changed much from last years' models.
The Xs Max has the biggest iPhone display ever, but will be about the same physical size as the 8 Plus.
Both the Xs and Xs Max are available with up to 512GB storage (double the biggest size for last years' iPhones).
The aluminum Xr comes in 6 different colors and has a "liquid retina" LCD display. Single camera, though it will be getting portrait mode.
Other announcements include the Series 4 Apple Watch now with a built-in electrical heart sensor that can give you an ECG(!).
