If you shop at a lot, it is definitely worth it to have their credit card as you get the 5% off and free shipping. If you are only after the $40, I would go with other credit card promotions which you can find offering at least $200 cashback.
I have always wanted the Red card. I do believe though every time you apply for a new credit card there is a check on your credit score? I believe there are two types of checks; soft and hard. When a check is made it actually decreases your credit score? If you care about good credit scores then this is something you want to avoid? Anyone?
@pukey applying will result in a hard pull, which will result in a small ding on your credit (3 to maybe 10 points off). in almost all cases the ding will be gone in a month or two.
if you plan on making any major purchases that require good credit in the next few months (car, house, etc.) then i'd hold off. otherwise just go ahead an apply. i did just for the $40 and i shop at every so often so why not?
