This does make it look easy, though the conventional method of just taking some stiff material (or more drywall), slipping it in the hole similarly but screwing it on, tends to be less expensive if not *free*.
^ Around here there's various construction sites where you can find scraps of wood, drywall, and more... though several layers of cardboard can work too and just about everyone has cardboard to get rid of.
The REALLY best way is to hire a full construction crew to come in, demolish the old wall, put up a new wall, repaint, get new curtains, and wife will need new shoes to accessorize.
