The tungsten coatings help some but not like a cobalt alloy does and if they have both great! The Oxide wears off fairly quickly or if you sharpen them its a goner. Split points are also something to look for, they start cutting better without as much wandering around. Cheap bits are fine for soft stuff but for hard metal a good drill bit set will make a huge difference.
If you have a Menards by you, look for their Tool Shop Titanium Twist set. It is 160 peices, with multiples of the smaller sizes. Definitely my favorite set of all time. They come in an excellent metal case, sizes are stamped on the bits, they can handle quite a bit of abuse, and when you dull one out, you toss it and you still have several more of the same size.
