I was always a big proponent of buying good movies and yes, I did watch them more than a couple of times.
Two things have changed: First For less than what I used to pay for basic cable per month, I now have more streaming sources than I know what to watch on any particular night. Between HBO, Netflix, and now Disney+ I have way more options than I do time.

Second newer movies just seem to ****.
The problem with streaming is you can't get the quality of video or audio that physical media has.
Well now quite a few of the Prime, Disney+ and Netflix offerings are in 4K and HDR+. Some are fake HDR+, but still. The sound on those usually shows up as Dolby+ as well.
