I see this size, and wonder at what point the slot/ HD bay is too valuable for such a small size drive. I've been bumping bays at 3TB up to 8TB, and if/when I buy another drive, it would probably be 12TB or higher.

^ Depends on quantity of storage needed, and of course # of bays you have.

At some point, empty platters spinning around just use more power, create more wear and heat, and if asleep, take longer to spin up. In any generation I usually stick to a capacity that uses no more than 3 platters.

Another way to look at it is, why pay a premium for shorter lived drives, instead of picking a capacity where the capacity:price curve starts to level off, and using the money saved to upgrade the drives again after the next platter density increase?
