Fair warning, these things look big in the picture but are pretty small when you see them in person. Since they are tapered on the sides and the lid concaves inward at the top, it means there is less actual usable storage space inside these units even though they look large. They are smaller than the size of a box of copy paper for comparison.
^ That seems strange if you mean a typical 10 ream box of copy paper. That's roughly 2000 cu in while a gallon of water is 231 cu in. 2000/231 = 8.7 gallons. They do make smaller sizes like 5 gallon.
dave_c: Home Depot lists the same product and shows the interior bottom dimensions as 15.75 in. L x 11.25 in. W x 11 in. H URL: https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-12-Gal-Tough-Storage-Bin-in-Black-206100/207207157
Using the SensorsOne calculator at https://www.sensorsone.com/length-width-and-height-to-volume-calculator/ the Volume at 15.75 x 11.25 x 11 = 8.4375 Gallons
A box of 10 reams of paper is 11.5 x 18 x 10 and using the same calculator above shows 8.96 gallons
Yes the top is wider than the bottom and yes it's not exactly the same capacity, but my intent was to let people know that were buying this online and not seeing it in person that it was smaller than the regular size totes most people are used to using. I was just trying to give people a general idea of what they were ordering.
