^ Terrible advice... They are made of rubber and flexible cable. Think of all the beating they will take when u actually drive on them. I've been buying tires online for YEARS... better selections and prices than the retail stores, and warranty included when you buy from Tire Rack... Their service is fantastic. I've had to use their road hazard warranty... Check came in the mail. Pronto!
The main thing about buying online is buy from a high volume seller, to increase odds of getting fresh stock. That may result in getting a newer tire than something the local shop already had in stock. Of course there are other factors like authorized dealer...
