Is this deal good for the membership? I've seen similar offers that include ~$40 of food items, but I've never made the transition over from Costco. I'm almost considering it just for the possible change of atmosphere.

I disagree with most of the comments here. I have a Costco membership and love it. However, there are many items at Sam's you just can't get at Costco. It appears to me that Sam's selection is far more varied than that of Costco. I let my Sam's membership lapse because I felt the same way most folks here do - that Costco is superior- but I'm going to renew Sam's using this deal (it's been over a year). I still am not in love with Sam's, but I can't get 252 cups for $9, double bubble gum, coke syrup, or many other items at Costco....
