It seems like the credit card is run by Capital One and the rewards side by Sony. It's not making sense to me how hacking Sony would obtain your info.

I had a Sony Card that was received when I put a computer on it for a deal 5 Christmas's ago....Never used again.... Magically about a month ago.....Someone got a hold of that number and put over $3000 on it.....I know I wasn't hacked....I know my bank wasn't hacked.....This came from the SONY side.....I would so be staying away from SONY and there credit services until they "secure" there site/corporation.My opinion.....But they were definitely hacked and just had a movie cancelled about it also. I know it was from them is how I got hacked.....STAY AWAY!

If it comes with a free copy of The Interview, it would be great but otherwise, there's no such thing as a Good credit card.

Great way to get my car fixed just use this card. Pay it off later and never use it again.

Reading description, there is at least a vestigial link to Sony from this card, since they give you extra credit for buying Sony. That's probably not very hackable, but I ain't gonna take a chance since Sony was hacked a few years ago (and yes I was I paying customer before that so my info was likely compromised - no apparent damage though) and now there is another hack.

I have zero confidence in Sony being able to even HIRE people who can handle security. What a bunch of ******.

Anyone know if you have to spend that $500 on Sony.com
or is it on any purchase anywhere to qualify for $200 credit

No chance of this card being hacked, what with Sony's proven vault like security in place.

...there's no such thing as a Good credit card.

I disagree. Credit cards are a financial tool and like any tool can be used wisely or carelessly. I have several cash rebate credit cards that I use to make money on transactions I'm going to make anyway, for things like food, fuel, clothing and other expenses. If I used cash to pay those expenses, I wouldn't get the 1-2% cash back on them. None of the cards I use have an annual fee, all have a grace period, and I pay them off on time without carrying ANY balance on them. It all adds up to extra money I wouldn't have if I hadn't used the credit cards.

Also, without any extra charge, I get extended warranties on any purchases, which has saved me hundreds, trip insurance that saved me once when a trip went bad, and rental car insurance so I don't have to pay extra. I don't think you can even rent a car without a credit card! I was also able to buy concert tickets before they went on sale for 3 concerts that sold out in minutes.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Sony had a cyber warfare unit and launched the DDOS attack.

I say go for it, hack or not. I've had 2 CC-s hijacked internally to the merchant (Sears and WM) last yr. and while a PITA to get them fixed/replaced I never lost $$$ only some time on the phone. Plenty of alternate card to use in the meantime.

$200 back on $500 within 90 days is a pretty good deal. I do things like this a couple of times a year. Free money, then cancel next year.

One of the better CC deals is chase southwest and united. You pay a 99 fee but you get enough points for 3 RT airline tickets if you plan right. I switch between the 2 every year.

I got one but after I use the 200 extra credit and pay it off I will probably just cancel it.

I got a Sony card back around '08 or '09 to get around $250 off of a PS3. I think the card changed banks once since that time, it is CapitalOne as mentioned. I've never had any fraudulent charges on any cards. I do use this one often. Points add up quickly for me unfortunately, and I like some of their stuff anyway. Has been a couple good sales too, very cheap Sony TV a couple years ago, free decent camera with points, etc. I can't get time to travel more than a day, airport with jets is 150 miles away anyway, travel card is useless, so it's either a card with points for stuff or cashback, I split between those types.

I think this card is as safe as about any other. Yes Sony did what they did years ago, but if a group of hackers decides to
target
a company, chances are they can get it hacked. This being a Cap1 card, not much of an issue, points transfer automatically from the card to Sonyrewards. Not as bad as a loan I got from the USDA, they posted my name, address, phone number, date of birth as well as my "account number" online for the world to see. By "account number" I mean my entire social security number is what they used, no code or anything, just that. They were kind enough to pay for one year of credit monitoring for doing that on purpose.

As I read the fine print, it looks like you can get the credit by using the credit card anywhere. To me, the hitch is that the only way you can use your credit is buying Sony products or services.

I did this last year, it is awesome. You don't need to buy Sony products. I didn't buy a single Sony item. I used the card until I got up to $500. Put it away, 4 months later received $200 credit on the account. I used the card to take advantage of the credit and cancelled the card. Win Win

That's smart thinking.

Sony Playstation network was down for how many weeks when it was hacked? Sony's been on a sinking ship for how many years, Samsung and Apple have taken away a lot of market share. It's a shame, I used to really like their products, credit cards are major money makers but I stay away from them ever since I was introduced to Dave Ramsey.

I have to pass. Too many to monitor. When you apply one, your credit score hurts. If you do not use it and it is canceled, your credit score hurts.

SONY has "inside" hackers apparently. I'd stay away from this offer myself...

This is true. A few years back
Amazon
was offering $35 credit when you opened a new CC account with them. I opened about 6 different accounts (just to get the free $$$) and never used any of the cards except for the 1st initial purchase to get the cards. Just for the heck of it, I decided to check my credit score online about a year ago, and to my surprise my score wasn't in the top 90% even though I had no debt of any kind (home, car, etc) for over 10 years. I don't really care because I'm not needing to borrow any money, but it does prove that opening new acct's & then closing them w/o establishing credit worthiness will hurt your credit score (if that's a concern).
