Every Movie and TV Show Coming to Netflix in June 2015

By on May 24, 2015

The land of Netflix was a dry and infertile one in May but, luckily and unlike California, droughts don’t last. June is looking like a month much easier to digest for the people with far too little to do.

A nice dose of Netflix originals, films that run the gamut from robots to civil rights and even a super skinny Jake Gyllenhaal will all vie for that buffering space so vital those enchained to the oppression of Comcast and Verizon. First, as always, let’s start with the highlights. The full list is further down below.

Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler Netflix

Jake Gyllenhaal dropped a whole bunch of weight and a heaping of morality for his turn in Nightcrawler. He’s a clear cut sociopath that chases down crime and horrific accidents in the dirty streets of L.A., armed not with a gun but a video camera and a freelance business strategy crafted from the pits of pure ambivalent ambition. Once he makes contact with a similarly ambitious TV news producer, the stakes continue to rise until Gyllenhaal’s character finally graduates from creepy to psychotic. It’s a thrill.

Nightcrawler debuts on Netflix on June 10.

Sense8

The plot for this Netflix original remains mostly mysterious, save for the snippets garnered from the one and only trailer. Still, it’s a science fiction TV show from the Wachowski siblings. They may or may not still have your faith in the movie making business; if they can translate their shared visual insanity onto the small screen, it may not matter. Let’s be optimistic. Let’s hope to all sanity it’s more The Matrix and less Jupiter Ascending.

The first season of Sense8 debuts on Netflix on June 5.

Orange is the New Black

Jenji Kohan proved an agile script writer in her endless efforts to shake up Weeds while that was still on the air. That’s all the more reason season two of Orange is the New Black was such a dissapointment, flaming out on any new kind of premise early on and falling back on old settings as it came to a close. Hopefully, Kohan is more willing to stretch her legs in season three.

Season three of Orange is the New Black debuts on Netflix on June 12.

A Most Wanted Man

A Most Wanted Man Netflix

It will always be a tragedy that The Hunger Games will remain in the eyes of the public the last film of Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was a nuanced, triumphant kind of actor who regularly overcame the weaknesses of the movie around him. In that way, maybe The Hunger Games is a bit appropriate, but A Most Wanted Man is the more satisfying sendoff. This British spy thriller twists and tinkers and challenges as the best thrillers often do, anchored in the indomitable abilities of its leading star.

A Most Wanted Man debuts on Netflix on June 19.

The Aviator

The Aviator Netflix

Leo and Marty have had an incredibly strong run together ever since Gangs of New York reminded the world how disgusting large cities truly are. The followup, The Aviator, was a far more obvious starring vehicle for the round-headed, slick-haired money maker DiCaprio was turning out to be. As the historical Howard Hughes, DiCaprio took a dive into the whole brilliant/mentally ill Oscar-bait world of movie making. The result was a fantastic performance cut down a bit by some surprisingly uneventful directing from Scorsese.

The Aviator debuts on Netflix on June 1.
