I love a good LED headlamp, but this one seems to be too finicky, according to the reviews!

It has inductive switch, my worry is it turns on if packed in m uhh pack, then dies, I will pack with batteries pulled out

The switch is likely capacitive, not inductive. Odds are low it would accidentally turn on unless in contact with something moist, but you can try that out yourself.
