Extended edition of LOTR is a must, but I can't imagine how the extended edition of Hobbit will make it any better.

Or pay $10 more and get the legit blu-ray discs which are more versatile and you actually "own" it (at least 1000X more than you "own" anything on iTunes). Then you can rip the blu-rays and have digital media files you can play on pretty much anything, even non-Apple devices like your Plex.
