Leather anything cases are fine as long as they don't get wet. Then, they can stink or stain or just deteriorate. (Reference; Seinfeld episode about the suede jacket)

3M/etc stainguard/waterproofer. In olden days they'd use bees wax or whatever goop they had but that's a lot messier.
