does this give you directions when you are riding? Why does one need a gps? - It doesn't even show maps. It has too many (unnecessary) things for my taste.
I've read on it, and i guess GPS is used when you are connected to your smartphone. I guess the actual GPS is useful in case you are out of Cell tower range... But still ... pass!

I've had good success with Cateye in general. There are several big advantages for the gps. The biggest for me is that it's completely independent of the size of your wheels/tires so you can take it from bike to bike. (additional mounts are cheap). It stores things like altitude and stuff like that.

The biggest advantage is that there is just one piece. You're not trying to run a wire down your fork to a sensor or hope that your wireless sensor between your wheels and the computer holds a signal. I have a recumbent and non of the wireless ones do.
