So, can I cancel current "membership" then re-join at the lower rate?

For college (and possibly high school) students with a valid .edu email address, there is also
Amazon
Student, which currently has a 6 month free trial along with a 50% off membership rate after that:

Last year you could give yourself this deal as a gift, let your membership expire, then start the gift membership.
Wonder if that will work this time.

Last I heard you had to send in papers to verify your current college enrollment

No, but you can pay more for an item to help cover the cost of the "free" shipping being a Primate....

Shh, that's
Amazon
's little secret.

I don't use all the features of the Prime membership, but I order more than 200 items per year so my shipping costs average $0,50 per purchase. I can watch any (mostly mediocre) movie in their library anytime for free. It's worth it to me.

Why hasn't
Amazon
been sued yet over this practice?

Did this a few weeks ago. All you need is a .edu address.

Just wondering if it was any different than what had already been debunked. Nope.

Just remember that is you share yr membership with up to 4 friends, you will loose that after re-joining. Since the rules changed.

Man Im tempted. Never thought the $99 was worth it. Always seemed the items I bought were rarely prime eligible anyway. Guess I answered my own question.

It doesn't seem to let you buy it as a gift for $67. So, I don't think it will work like last year to let your membership expire, then redeem the gift.

I could get it for the $67, I went through give the gift of prime and it said the discount would be applied at checkout. I checked out and was charged $99 and the sales tax. I immediately asked to cancel the gift card purchase and it said they will "TRY" to cancel it.
I have been waiting for 1/2hr and still no refund, I guess I will have to call India and deal with one of their stooges.

Do you mean the famous bollywood comedy troupe? Mohesh, Larripta and Curlinder? Those guys are awesome! I love it when Mohesh punches Curlinder in the face with a Keema pie. Classic!

Just got off the phone with India and I was at first lied to and told I was charged $67, I told them that was wrong and check again and then I was told the truth that I was really charged $104.94 because this item cannot be purchased as a Gift Card for yourself or anyone else.
I was told after a 5min wait that they had processed my cancellation and I should see it in 2-3 days.

PS. This email just came from the girl in India...
I've requested a refund of $104.94 to your credit card.

You'll see the refund on your credit card statement in the next 2-3 business days.

Once processed, you'll also be able to see the refund
