Remember that this is not only locked to Verizon but that it's also likely locked to prepaid -- there's no clear sign from Verizon that it can be moved to a postpaid line.
Can we use this phone with the Verizon Loyalty Plan that we are currently on?
I would like to replace my wife's phone with this one. I'll pay full price for the phone to not have any contract extensions.

That's a thoughtful gift, duey121! Currently, the Motorola Moto G is for Prepaid only, which comes without any contracts. You would need to be on a Prepaid plan. For Prepaid plans, please go to http://vz.to/1bca6js
Not totally true. I have transferred phones from pre-paid to traditional contract. The catch is the phone must be active on a pre-paid plan for at least six months. If you call them and ask they will confirm.
The phone may be cheap, but the service is expensive! The best plan you can get with this phone is the $45 per month plan. If you add it up over 12 months you will pay $540 + the $50 phone.
I got the same phone with Republic Wireless for $150 and their comparable plan is $25 per month. That comes to $300 for 12 months + $150 for the phone which is $140 cheaper than Verizon.
Republic even has a $10 a month plan (if you don't care for 3G) which means you could spend as little as $270 over the corse of 12 months!

Buy $50 Moto G from Fry, put it on a $12 monthly plan with Pageplus Wireless which is Verizon Prepaid MVNO, so this should definitely work there and now lets do the calculations:
Moto G: $50
Plan: 12 x $12= $144
Total: $194 for one year of phone service.
$12 pan gets you 250mins calls + 250 texts + 10MB 3G Data
How can I prevent it from draining the battery? Bought one a week ago, put it in flight mode when not using it, lost 33% of battery the next morning after an 8 hour sleep.
I bought it for the same reason for it, to use it like an ipod. I will return because it does not have the expandable memory slot. You are stuck with internal 8 gig. Otherwise, it would have been a great find.
As for those arguing about pitting into a 6 month prepaid, I think it's a stupid argument. All you need to do is activate it once, and then only use it for that month or until you finish using the credit. the only thing you have to overcome is that the phone has been active 6 months ago. Does not say about continue usage for 6 months.

What's the point of having it in flight mode while you sleep instead of turning it off to save battery life, use as an alarm clock?
I used default setting and play about 2 hours mp3 everyday and some light browsing and it used < 10% daily. To save battery, turn off auto sync and any background programs such as streaming. Reboot if all fails.
