I call baloney. I've had DVR with Comcast and now Uverse. I don't know of any sata connection on it's back, nor do I know how to make the DVR see this as a secondary point of storage.

Beware! Most posts on Newgg are negative. It seems as a standalone hard drive works fine, but the enclosure is **** and comes w/ no cables

Maybe. It depends on your needs. If 1/2TB is all you need and you don't think future-proof, then it's OK. For same or even lower price-per-terabyte you can get a 2TB portable USB 3.0 2.5" HDD for about $95, on sale. Do your math.
