I have a couple of the old 74GB Raptors that the warranties expired 2010 and one finally died. Both worked well over 8 years. Reliable drive but i'm not sure if it's worth the $60+ premium over modern 7,200RPM 1TB drives. You'll probably want to check Anandtech or Tom's hardware for recent benchmarks. Currently more cost effective then dishing out $500 for a 1TB SSD drive currently.
WD's Black 1TB drive is 80 at today (at least in the flyer they sent me). They also have the 5 year warranty. I don't buy the Blue, Green or Red drives, only the black ones. They really do seem to last.
