Just for future reference: what exactly makes this a "gaming" hard drive vs. just a run-of-the-mill external hard drive? I saw a few decent deals for "gaming" hard drives this BF weekend, but never took the time to figure out the difference. Can I still use these things as a plain, old external HDD on my (aging) desktop/laptop?

Yes you can use as normal drives.
I had a Toshiba Canvio 2tb and it kept crashing games on my Xbone so bought this one and it solved the problem. Whatever it is its working.

The speed of the drive must meet xbox specifications.... so the usb chipset speed and the drive itself has to deliver....
