This seems like one of those "too good to be true" deals. I mean, what am I missing? Lifetime VPN for $2.22? Huh?!?! I mean, I've never heard of this AnonVPN.io outfit...anybody? I typically use Private Internet Access and are pretty satisfied with that for like $7/month. But $2.22 LIFETIME?! Come on...seriously?

AnonVPN is affiliated with Proxpn in some way (link below).

If I had to guess, they have spare bandwidth that they're monetizing by starting up this 2nd company with a finite max bandwidth which is then divided among users.

For example I've used Private Internet Access and get fairly near my regular ISP speeds, but I got this deal today and it's going sluggish, up to 3.5Mb d/l on a speed test but it looks like this might be a similar plan to the one Proxpn offers for free on the following link with a 300KB connection, except that some of the other things disabled on their free version may not be disabled for this - I haven't had a chance to check that, but it does pass a DNS leak test, and it did peak over 300KB so it looks more like congestion than a hard bandwidth rule.

I did try the Torguard IP checker (and some torrents) to confirm that it's passing torrents through the VPN, but for all I know that might be against the terms of service which I didn't see on their homepage. Then again what is against a company's TOS for legal reasons and what they actually block can be two different things.

They don't have many servers so it could end up that they're overloaded after this deal and then slow enough you won't want to use it much, especially if you already have another VPN, but then again it is only $2 and it wouldn't be hard to get that value out of it if they merely run for a month or two before shutting down.

On the other hand this might just be a marketing move, to practically give away a few thousand subscriptions to get the word out about their service before they start charging ~ $6/mo like their competition.

The lowest it would take from me was $14.60... too much for a service I've never evaluated before. I was able to get a 1 year sub for $1.01... still might be too much. Much on Stack is cheap, but their educational packages--at lease the ones I've purchased--have very much been get-what-you-pay for.. ie, crizzap.

^ Try just clicking "Pay what you want", then enter a number, like "2". Ignore the text that reads "You will not get the full bundle". I think that still gets you the lifetime VPN, just not the email account or 1 year which seems to just be an artifact of the ordering process, not something that makes any sense to redeem and they note somewhere not to redeem it.

As it got later in the evening the speed improved, was up around 60% my regular speed w/o a VPN except a bit higher latency.

Reading the "fine print" the 2.22 only gets you the 1 year subscription. The lifetime and email only "unlocks" if you beat the average price (currently ~$14).

Ave price is up to $15.55 now. If more people just low bid for the annual it sounds like the bundle might come down b/c ave price will.

Having had it for 13 months to this day, I would have paid $15 or even $50 for it... but I didn't have a crystal ball at the time to know this then since it seemed too good to be true.

One thing that I found with their service was you don't want the most recent VPN windows app, it has problems with connection speed. Well, I don't know about their most recent now but I run 1.0.4.3 which works fine but 1.0.5.4, 1.0.5.5, and maybe newer too, had drastically reduced speed for me.
