You're then responsible to start making payments on a new phone to Tmobile. This deal works best if you already own a Tmobile phone

It would've been nicer if they allowed us $650 to switch so someone with an old phone and no contract can switch and buy a nice phone.

Ok..? What is the point of this?

T-mobile can pay up to 1 million dollar to ATT for all i care, but at the end i have to give up my phone to T-mobile? I gained nothing. What if I already finished paying half of my ATT phone?

Folks I don't do a lot of posting or adding comments to any forum. I must say that this is the best deal ever happen to me. I was with AT&T and decided upgrade my phone to a note 4 and an apple 6 for my wife. I didn't realized how much data plan cost with AT&T. My monthly bill was creeping up and up by adding data plan. Long story short, each of my phone I've upgraded was $300 +plus tax. Comes out to ~350 per phone. I switch over to tmoble to reduce my monthly phone bill. T mobile took care of me. They paid off my existing contract, cover the phone differences.

Upto $650. Based on how old your phone is and how many months you have left on your contract. As quickstart mentioned AT& T and the rest charge a hell lot for their data plans. If you have been using a smartphone for a while you know that there is nothing smart about owning the cutting edge device ( except that you bleed a lot ). A decent unlocked smart phone could be bough for $250-300 range - ( go to a mobile store or
ebay
) and get the tmobile plan if they have coverage in your area. Save the rest of the money and buy a horse ..!

Depending on what phone you choose, you can pay on a monthly installment with T-Mobile. About a year ago a Samsung S3 was $10/mo and an S4 was around $15-20/mo. Can't remember exactly so you'll just have to ask. I think there's also a $5/mo insurance option that if anything happens to the phone they replace it immediately for free.

I bought my phone outright when I signed up with T-Mobile a year ago. It's a decent plan. 4G speed is good - when there is a signal. Overall happy with it. My monthly bill is around $72/mo after tax which also includes $10/mo international calling.
