Once again: no, No, NO! a REDcard isn't "free to join" like some company's rewards program. A REDcard is an actual debit card or credit card. Therefore, the debit card requires and involves a bank account and is a true financial instrument. The credit card requires substantially detailed personal information so that a credit check can be performed and your credit history at all three of the credit reporting agencies will be impacted.
You mods repeatedly mention the REDcard in the postings as if all "membership" requires is one's name and email address. This is INCORRECT. Yes, having a REDcard provides a 5% discount and it may be free to apply, but obtaining one is NOT "free to join."
It is "free to join" as in you can link your bank account and debit card to it for "free". You get 5% back on purchases for doing so on all purchases. Maybe you are the Illuminati type that thinks some of your info is private, but those days are over and done.

You are correct this is a " only credit card" with an APR as high as 22.90% and late fees ranging up to $35. Minimum payments are unusually low so you will rack up more interest on your existing balance each month. Get popped with any interest and the 5% savings is gone.
