This hedge trimmer receives high praise over many reviews. Has a much higher-capacity battery than their next in line. (and is Lithium Ion versus NiCd) And it's certainly nice to not have to worry about dragging around and/or accidentally "trimming" an extension cord.
I've never cut my extension cord but usually find the lifespan is up when the blade dulls. I could spend a lot of time with a file to sharpen them or go through several dremel tool stones to do it but I just wait till they're on sale again for around $40.
