That's funny. I took an Uber from EWR (Newark) earlier this year, and a cop shook down our driver because he didn't have a cab tag. So be warned, at least in NJ you might get hassled unless things have changed in the last few months.
UBER rides can be pretty convenient, and I'm sure this will be helpful to a lot of holiday travellers. Btw - talking to your Uber driver usually leads to some really good conversation. You never know - you might be in the back seat of a famous person
