This is a good deal and there are some decent deals to be had for cables, smaller electronics, items you would use as back up such as their power supply. Otherwise some of the prices are ridiculous.
Odd they're calling it a half height? Found this drive at with a $7 off w/ promo code EMCEFFT36, (ends 1/20). So $13 at Egg w/FS. For me if the one from TigerD is a dud you may have issues getting the replacement there's No Refund! For-get-about-it for $3 I'd just get it from Egg and be on my doorstep tomorrow.
That's not odd, Casecutter, the 5 1/4" bays on the front of a computer case are half height bays. Look up 5 1/4" full height devices for a size comparison.
Half height is the new full height... but just imagine how much capacity a HDD could have if same platter density but 5.25" and full height.
I'm too lazy to do the math but guess it'd be in the neighborhood of 40TB. They might need to slow it down to 5400RPM or lower but along with an SSD for OS and apps, I'd be fine with that.
