About a year and a half ago, I replaced a 5-year-old Samsung Messager in great condition with a Samsung Evergreen which is very similar to the Messager and the Evergreen is almost identical to this Gravity. Cricket, my cell carrier, was transitioning from CDMA networks to GSM networks and the Messager was a CDMA phone. Both the Evergreen and the Gravity accept SIM cards for GSM networks. I really like the slider phones with a full QWERTY keyboard and have absolutely no use whatsoever for a smart phone.
Although my Evergreen was absolutely brand new in the box when I purchased it from an seller for about $40 (one-fifth what I paid Cricket for the Messager over 5 years before), I have experienced some of the turning-off-without-warning issues mentioned in the Gravity reviews as well as it seemingly locking up and requiring turning off and turning back on. For the money, I find these issues annoying, but not a deal breaker. Had these issues occurred with the $200 Messager, I would've raised hell with Cricket. Because AT&T purchased Cricket a couple of years ago, I knew that an unlocked Evergreen (originally programmed as an AT&T phone) would accept the Cricket SIM card and work on the Cricket network. I have nothing but great reviews for the Cricket network and plan pricing.
The reviews for the Gravity on mention the issues that I have with my Evergreen plus some. It seems that there are some hardware AND software flaws with the Gravity and MANY people dislike the Gravity. Knowing what I know about my Evergreen's problems, there is NO WAY that I'd purchase a Gravity...even for $20.
