ECM motor that only uses 30 watts @1560cfm. Most use 3-400 watts. Why are not motors this efficient for other applications. .12cents aday to run 24/7? $38 a year versus $380. Pays for itself in first summer.

They are not so popular because they are much more expensive than a similar lower efficiency fan, and people don't think deeply enough about it.

I bought one a year ago and still haven't installed it.

While you could wire it on a switch and always run it, there is a thermostat and it's doubtful that you'd need to, especially at night from fall through spring.

It's also possible that they're playing with the numbers. Other sources claim the ECM motors may be as low as 20% of the power consumption for the same CFM (at most, but often closer to 30%), which is a great power savings, but that would make another fan with the same CFM, only 150W.

If true then it would become an issue of what airflow rate an application actually needs, but apples to apples, a 120W difference on a fan that only runs 1/4th of that 24/7/365 period, would only save $32 a year.

Not everyone has 4 seasons. Um DUH. Lower states would run this fan 6 months a year. It doesnt take much to heat an attic up and need use of this fan. Plus if you have an attic access point in the house. On a warm day you can open it up and use this fan sorta like a whole house fan. Not as much draft but you will get some airflow.

^ That's not quite true. "IF" it has enough capacity to handle a summer day, then it has excess capacity for a summer night, let alone a winter night. If you need more than one to provide enough airflow handle summer days, you will need fewer for the same thermostat controlled on/off operation any other time. It's basic math.

If you want to use this as a whole house fan when it's hot outside, and maybe humid too, be my guest, but there's no way I'd do that instead of running A/C.

We used to have a whole house, attic vented fan like that when I was a kid, but it was about 3X this size and mounted on the attic floor. This one alone, would be insufficient for the purpose of whole house cooling unless it's a pretty small house.

Its purpose is to keep an attic below the set temperature threshold, not be a substitute for other means of cooling in the livable areas of a home.

Everyone is so eager to ding rep these days...

What matters greatly is use. I am in Florida so I am destined to run it a lot. More like 14-16 hours a day 6-8 months a year. The lowest amperage motor is the very efficient masterflow 1600cfm at 1.65amps(198 watts 120v*1.65) some with similar cfm like the broan 1600cfm are 3.9 amps (468watts 120*3.9)
So if I took the lowest figures for myself against the masterflow 1600cfm I would get. (198watts - 30watts EPA requires accuracy rating since 1997) 168wattshr*14 =2.3kw more a day at .12KWhr that is .28 minimum per day more. (.28 x30days x 6 months=$51yr min.cost more than quietcool to run) As compared to the Broan 438watthr*14=6.1kw more a day .12KWhr would be a minimum .73cents a day more. (.73*30days*6months= $131yr cost more than quietcool)
The point is that some people have older fans installed with high amperage fans and are throwing money away. By the time you add a thermostat to the masterflow 1600 it is $138 versus the quietcool at $240 with included thermostat.

In short $50 to $130 plus a year savings in Florida or southern states.

Sorry my figures were seemed off at suggesting 24/7 365 yr $380 a year but for replacement or even update the quietcool pays for itself quickly depending on what you have currently.

After this I am going to research trying to find an a/c fan with ECM-Brushless motor as I run mine 24/7 for allergen filtration. It pressurizes the house as well as filters using the intake filtration.
