That's a great way to polish the car. Only works if the clearcoat is intact.

Clay baring can be tricky- just be liberal with the spray; I clay bared my car for the first time a few weeks ago and fair warning, the spray seems to attract bugs.

I've been using this exact combo for over a decade. Must-do before you wax or polish. Work absolutely great and as intended. The detailer itself is worth the price and great for spot cleaning.

You need to do this at least once a year. The crud that's stuck in the paint just continues to get embedded in if you don't.
