I purchased the same headphones from another vendor and had to send them back. If you notice on the product page, it makes no mention of "active" noise cancelling. The unit I got had no battery compartment for powering an active function. Monster's instructions for active units clearly describe the procedure of installing the required batteries. Without the battery compartment and with a permanently attached cable, these appear to be dummy "passive noise cancelling" display units.
There are 2 versions of this headphones, active and passive. The passive one doesn't have a battery compartment since it doesn't have the noise cancelling electronics. That being said I find them quite effective in reducing the noise around you due to their large ear pads and tight clamping feature. They also fold to a relatively small size and have become my go to headphones for air travel. Please note that this is a demo model since it has a non-removable cable. However YMMV as they may or may not have been used as a demo. The one I got from another vendor looks like it was never used. Incidentally the sound is great from these headphones without the usual hissing sound from my other active noise reducing headphones.
NOT noise cancelling. "Noise isolating". In other words, they fit around your ear like standard earphones from 50 years ago, thus cutting off outside noise. Also, these are not "real" Inspiration 'phones. Read the disclaimer:
"Please Note: These headphones DO NOT have a removable cable. Monster created demo units with non-removable cables which we're bringing you for an incredibly low price. These headphones will not include the noise canceling adapter. "
That being said they may well be worth the $35 price tag. , , have them for $50.
