In my experience, Mainstays tends to be a cheaper brand, especially their cookware. They scratch easily and don't last very long. But at a $5 price point, you are still getting a great deal.
I don't like eating the non-stick surface as it gradually (or quickly in the case of an inferior product) wears off and mixes in with the food.
I dabbled with various woks for a few years until I purchased a heavy cast iron wok.
My cast iron wok will last my lifetime and then some. Stuff never sticks because it spreads the heat out due to its thickness. The only downside is the weight which means you must be very careful if you have a ceramic sink or ceramic cook surface.
Yes, a decent cast iron wok is much more than $5, but you won't have to buy a new one each year - ever again.
Here is one on for $40 incl shipping: https://www.amazon.com/Bayou-Classic-7437-12-12-inch-Cast/dp/B004CG9YAU
i got this for my wife last month. she immediately used it for flied lice. it was good and easy to clean. she was really happy with the performance and the price. the quality was decent so it should last us a while. i put this in their "best things at " the only other thing on that list is their knockoff Yeti tumbler that is absolutely amazing.
