I'm not a gamer so I have no idea what the difference would be. Are gaming devices better?
Besides looks and button layout, gaming mice typically have easy adjustable DPI. This allows you to change the cursor speed on the fly. In a First Person Shooter (FPS) this is good when you go from long range to close range combat. A sniper needs slow cursor movement to shoot the tiny things.
