Technically you're still under contract. You pay for the phone in 2 year monthly installments.

Word of caution: be careful when buying a used phone. even if there's a clean IMEI, the original owner can stop making these payments and TMOBILE will blacklist the phone. I know from experience.

They offer this phone depending on the plan chosen. If prepaid is chosen, this phone does not come up at this price. However, with prepaid, the phone is listed as out of stock and you can't order it. If you follow this link and attempt to purchase it, you can. However, despite not having an annual contract attached to it, you can only purchase it with a $50 monthly plan. If you choose "one time payment," they want $150 right now and a credit check may affect that price point. It isn't clear. I am looking for a prepaid phone and plan and this won't do it for me. However, just note that it really isn't quite as simple as clicking and buying at this price with the coupon code. You have to sign up and pay for some sort of monthly plan. That's how it looks to me after clicking through it from different starting points on the T-Mobile website.

^ 1) Choose the phone with the lowest plan $50

    2) Skip the next page with the additional items

    3) in the third page choose the One Payment option in the gray bar right under the huge checkout

    4) Use the code L90DEAL at the bottom Promo Code box

    5) Total comes out to $68.76 including the $15 sim chip (there may be taxes involved)

    6) Finish the check out process

    7) Cancel the monthly plan. This is where T-mobile doesn't hold you to a 2 year agreement. You're not bound by that plan because you're not paying to subsidize this phone. The $54 is actual cost.

Thanks Shmeagle. Do you know if you can just use the SIM chip/card from your previous android phone? Or do you have to buy one specifically for this phone?

Oh, thanks sabrosa33. Just saw your first post. So, apparently you have to buy the SIM chip with this phone.
