Yup... The "Hipe" in the name should have been "Hype". It needs a PC to work, and that PC must always be on. I rarely witnessed a design that dumb (or cheap). They could have made a self-contained unit for about same price.
^ Yes they could make one that tells you temperature and barometric pressure, maybe even with this size display for $15 or less, but "IF" it worked well, was a polished product, some people like myself who always have at least one system running wouldn't mind that requirement.
The thing is, if the computer is running then a shortcut to a weather 'site is going to give you whatever you choose to link without an extra gadget.
