I'm sure it works great as a digital companion to your higher end audio system, but as a standalone player with limited headsets, it probably doesn't sound much different than MP3 players.
^ What do you mean by "limited headsets"? It doesn't support standard analog cans with a 3.5mm plug?
I'd imagine it doesn't sound different unless you have high-z audiophile cans, then it sounds a little better, but if you're paying for the cans and this anyway, you'd probably want more rail to rail swing than a 3.7V Li-Ion battery can give you, would not want to still have to tether a headamp in addition to this to get there, spending even more money to do so.
... might be best paired with low-z, high end earbuds.
Right. I meant to say that headsets are limited in the sound they produce, for the most part. I'm not sure anyone can tell the difference between listening to FLAC vs. a higher bit rate MP3 when listening on a headset.
I can definitely tell the difference on my audio system between the two.
