I finished updating my whole house with LEDs last year. It cost $15 per bulb, but my electric bill went down around $30, so they have already paid for themselves. I don't see any reason to delay upgrading. For me, it was because incandescent lights failed constantly, and I got sick of replacing them. CFLs would last a little longer, but would still fail with a year. I have not had to replace a single LED. The light quality is fantastic, and they dim better than any CFLs as well. I recommend Philips since they dim as well as incandescent on standard dimmers. CREE are always good quality light, but they don't dim all the way down on cheap dimmers.
I thought I got these same cree A19 bulbs but I am not quite sure about the "TW series" part. And I got them for $7 a piece (Link shows $14-ish) at home depot with a 10 year warranty. The 3 year warranty and newer 4Flow bulbs were $5 a piece. Is the "TW series" that much better or something?
jock, the Cree "TW" series has a higher CRI of 93, which makes things look a lot more vibrant under the light. Earlier this year I bought one from HomeDepot to compare it with the similarly rated Feit Electric LED bulbs (60W, 93CRI) I bought at Costco. The Cree bulb won hands down. I guess for me it's worth spending more money for the better light.
The alternative to above GE soft white LEDs are the GE LED 5000K daylight bulbs which were reallly bright and black balled by wife for using inside. The above GE LED soft white bulbs seem to brighter than other the other LED A19s I have, but much softer than the darn 5000Ks that actually hurt my eyes when I tried them in the enclosed hallway fixtures.
