A better way to plan a vacation is one NOT involving theme parks at all.
Theme park family trips are the vacation equivalent of parking your kids in front of a TV set.
Mindless entertainment.

Go camping. Hike somewhere. Do some kayaking.
Something outdoorsy where nature can be enjoyed.

I hate to disagree, but a Disney trip is 100% guaranteed to be memorable. I'm 45 and still remember with great detail the two times my parents took the family to Disney world. They charge an arm and a leg and being there during peak times can be aggravating, but they deliver an amazing experience.

We saved a lot last summer by having the Garden Grocer store deliver a bunch of water bottles, cereal and snacks right to the Yacht Club Resort at DIsney. Never having to buy H20 or breakfast saves big time. Surprised Disney allows it, but they do. They even keep it in a hotel fridge for you and deliver it to your room. Some yogurts were past expiration, called Garden Grocer and they replaced 'em for free. Was thinking of using Prime Pantry, but harder to specify exact delivery date. BTW Garden Grocer sells beer, too.

Sure, do those kinds of vacations often, but at least take them to Disney World ONCE. Besides if you drive instead of flying, you can make it a fun, scenic road trip and camp out along the way if you like.
